OUR AGRICULTURAL PROGRAMS

The main goal of this department seeks to improve on food security and incomes of poor rural farmers and vulnerable and underprivileged groups through promotion of climate smart agriculture, promotion of soil conservation techniques, improving crop productivity and the restoration of degraded agricultural landscapes in Cameroon.

Agroforestry: Sustainable Organic Crop Farms (SOCFs)

We work to promote soil conservation and increase crop yields by training local farmers in agroforestry techniques, supporting them with agroforestry tree species and provision of technical support services. Our sustainable Organic Farms makes use of waste substrates obtained from the mushroom farm and fowl droppings from the poultry farms together with multipurpose agroforestry tree species on the same piece of land to form a good source of organic manure and at the same time help conserve soils. NaPCoD trains and encourages the local population to practice organic farming and mitigate the excessive use of chemical fertilizers.

Sustainable Organic Animal Farms (SOAFs)

NaPCoD with regular assistance from her workers, volunteers and interns runs an animal farm that trains local forest users and youths on poultry farming, from brooding to fattening.  Other animals domesticated at NaPCoD include rabbits and cane rats, with vision to engage into piggery, fishery and snail farming by 2022.

Sustainable Organic Mushroom Farms (SOMFs)

Chosen because of its nutritional and health value, NaPCoD as well trains on mushroom production-white oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus). This activity is the most implemented and cherished by local forest users as it is designed to reuse the materials considered by farmers as wastes (corn cob, sugarcane carcass and saw dust) into mushroom substrates used to grow mushrooms whose wastes is usually further decomposed into organic manure and used in home gardening.
